God promises King David that he will build him a house—a royal family line that leads to a king whose reign will never end. But before we get to the promised king, there is a long line of other kings, priests, and prophets who are called to represent God’s character on earth. Some do a pretty good job, others royally fail, and in the end, everyone comes up short. But humanity’s failures never cancel God’s faithfulness to his promise.
